DU chops off 3 percent reservation for women aspirants

 

Just when talks on national reservation were making news,Delhi University has registered a move on the contrary by lopping off a 3 percent relaxation in cut-offs for female aspirants aspiring to study in any co-ed college of the University.This year, the university has fixed the concession at one per cent, following an analysis based on data from colleges suggesting that there is no shortage of female students. The admission committee who took the decision on Tuesday saying that“Data reflects that the colleges have given admissions to 80-90 per cent girls in specific courses. For instance, 120 girls were admitted against 100 seats”. The attempt is towards a uniform relaxation,says one of the members of the admission committee.

 

The last year was marked by a list of colleges cutting the percentage requirements for women aspirants in co-ed colleges to give incentive to the latter for better chances of acquiring education. ASRD, PGDAV College, Deen Dyal,Zakir Hussain College, to name a few. The attempt is now to settle for a uniform base of education with minimum opportunity differences.

 

The admission season will start from May 27 and the first cut-off list will be out on June 22. The academic session will start from August 16.Around 54,000 undergraduates are admitted to the varsity every year.The university also has taken an en route to run its entire admission process online with due orders from the UGC and MHRD
